SÍLE DENVIR

ANAMNESIS is an album of sean-nós songs by singer Síle Denvir. Produced by John Reynolds, this album is a journey through song with the creation of a meditative, evocative soundworld.

SEAN-NÓS, meaning old-style, is a traditional way of singing in Irish. The songs on this album are from Connemara in the west of Ireland. They are rooted in the old bardic tradition, and although from another time and space, these songs tell stories of the eternal human condition – stories of love, life and loss, and everything in between. Connection with land and nature are ever present in these songs, the birds, mountains, seas and rivers, laying the foundation for imagery and metaphor.

The concept of Anamnesis – the idea of learning being essentially recollection, bringing to the forefront of the mind what lies in the subconscious, or of recapturing a memory that we hazily retain – perfectly captures the essence of the soundworld created through this album.
